Single CPU upgraded to Dual Core CPU problem.

Hello,

I have a WinXP Pro. SP2 install that was running on a old PIII CPU. I
upgraded my MB to a Pentium D dual core CPU... Device manager is showing
two processors, but Task Manager isn't. Do I have to do something so that
XP sees both CPU's?

With the CPU Graph showing, select view, CPU History, and make sure "One
Graph Per CPU" is selected instead of "One Graph, All CPUs". Also, make
sure in device manager under computer it shows it as a "????? Multiprocessor
PC" instead of a "????? Uniprocessor PC", if it don't, then change the
driver to the "SAME" type of "???? Multiprocessor PC". This in effect is
changing the Hardware Abstract Layer (HAL) driver - changing it from
Multiprocessor to Uniprocessor or vice versa as long as the type stays ACPI,
MPS or Standard - do not change this type or the PC may become unbootable or
suffer other issues requiring at least a repair installation of windows.

I don't even having that option in Task manager, as I think I'm only
utilizing a single CPU.

Under Computer in Device Manager, mine says:

Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC

How can I get it switched to Multiprocessor PC????

You're welcome. A repair install is generally needed when replacing the
MB and in your case essential with the new CPU so it can detect and
install the correct HAL. Good luck.

Don't know how you would change it but mine says "ACPI Multiprocessor PC".
Under processors it shows two 820 processors @ 2.8 GHz. Maybe download
chipset and mobo drivers from Intel and run them? Oh yea - I do have the one
graph/ two graph option in task manager. It's set for one graph each processor
