Hi All,

I have been having problems with the installation of some software and
some of the MS security updates, as well as general updates. My user
has Administrator privileges, but for good measure I have logged on as
the Administrator on the computer. Here is a typical message from the
Event Viewer:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11406
Date: 11/9/2007
Time: 6:43:17 PM
User: OBERON\Administrator
Computer: OBERON
Description:
Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 -- Error 1406.Could not write
value EventMessageFile to key \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
\Eventlog\Application\.NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting. System
error . Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or
contact your support personnel.

Does anyone have any clue how to solve this? I looked at the
permissions in the registry and they seem fine.

Thanks, Brian

Thanks, I sent them a quick email. I wonder if my registry is messed
up. I ran several registry cleaners, but nothing has changed.

Registry cleaners can oft times create more problems then they solve. The
cleaner issue has been fully discussed in these newsgroups by various MVPs
and other experienced users should you be interested in hearing some
opinions about their usefulness. The only time I ever use one (and it has
been years since I have done so) is when all else has failed and I have
nothing to lose.
