What exactly does the following feature in WinXP impact?

Show translucent selection rectangle

By way of illustration:

Let's suppose that there are two documents on your desktop that you wish to
send to the Recycle Bin. You could delete each one individually, but that's
SO BORING.

If the two documents are next to each other, you could do this: Click your
left mouse button just outside one of the icons and hold the button down.
Now drag your mouse pointer over the desktop and you will see a rectangular
box forming. Keep dragging until the rectangle encloses both document icons,
and let go of the the mouse button. Now both icons are selected. Just press
the Delete key on your keyboard and both documents will be sent to the
Recycle Bin together. It's more fun if you need to select more than just two
icons.

About that rectangle you drew: You can view just the outline of the
rectangle, but that's SO BORING. Instead, set the option to 'Show
translucent selection rectangle'. Now the rectangle will have an eerie
purple-ish color. Is that cool, or what?
