WinXP network , one machine is unreachable

Two identical Win XP machines are connected through a router.
Both have the same settings in all networking, firewall
(none), services, permissions and sharing. At least as far
as I can determine. From the first machine I can log onto
the second machine. From the second machine I get the
message "\\compA is not accessable. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the etc...
Access is denied"

I have tried with and without simple file sharing, with and
without Guest account wide open and even with a crossover
cable. Always the same message when trying to enter the
first machne. I have run the Internet connection sharing
wizard on both machiner.

Any constructive thoughts would be appreciated.

can you ping the other machine? make sure they are all on the same
workgroup and have different host names. I take it you have disabled the XP
firewall also

I've got exactly the same problem and have even run the
XP diagnostics only to be told that I don't have a
problem: but I have!

What do you mean by disabling the XP firewall? I have
disabled the guest computer's firewall but surely we
can't afford to disable the firewall from both computers
otherwise who knows what viruses and trojans will pile in?

Thanks for your replies.

When I said I turned off all firewalls, I meant I turned
off the WinXP firewall, uninstalled Zone Alarm and
disconnected my router from the cable modem to insure no
internet problems. In this configuration I also tried to
tie two computers together with only a cross over cable.
Still no access into the primary computer.
