WinXP clients cannot find domain

Hello, I am a user on a 8-machine network running Windows
XP Pro clients with Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Our
problem is that, intermittently, users will be unable to
log in, receiving an error message that the domain is not
accessible. Our IT guy says that all he has to do each
time this happens is remove the machine from the domain
and then re-join it. Now they are at the point of
preparing to re-image all the machines -- again.

I thought I'd pose this question on the newsgroup before
they do that, though, and see if anyone else has ever run
into this problem. If so, how did you fix it?

Thanks,

~~Cheryl

Exact error message is: "The system cannot log you on now
because the domain <DOMAIN_NAME> is not available." I am
having our sysadmin check the "Number of previous logons
to cache" setting in the policy, per
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?
url=/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/proddocs/standa
rd/579.asp (assuming the same information applies to our
Windows XP clients) to rule out an incorrect setting
value.

Oh well. They've "resolved" the issue by reinstalling
Windows 2000 Pro on all the client machines. We'll see how
that goes....
