WINXP Administrator user account

XP "Administer" account -
Either the user account was deleted or someone changed
the name on it. I can't recreate because it says that
this account has already been created even though I don't
see it in my user list.

Help! How do I get that username "administrator" back?

I do have another user setup as "administrator", but it's
my understanding that this still isn't quite the same.

G'Day 'UpACreek',

Win Xp has a number of 'built-in' accounts,
one of which has UserName: 'Administrator'.
They cannot be deleted.

If you are using Xp Home, you have to boot
to Safe Mode to log in as 'Administrator'.

This Administrator account does not appear
in the 'User Accounts' User manager tool.

Any created User can be AN 'Administrator'.

Right-Click My Computer, click on 'Manage'.
Double-Click 'Local Users and Groups'.
Double-Click 'Users' - you will now see ALL
Users

I'm new at XP, too, so the following answer may not be correct

If you mean you tried to create a user acount with the name "Administrator," then the reason you couldn't is because there already is such an account on XP. However, it's visible in the user list only when you boot into safe mode

UpACreek,

There can be only one user account with the name "Administrator" and this account hides itself when a user account with admin privileges exists. To login as administrator & to show Administrator account in the Welcome Screen, see:

Greetings --

The built-in Administrator account really isn't intended to be
used for day-to-day normal use. The standard security practice is to
set a strong password on it and use it only to create another account
for regular use, reserving the Administrator account as a "back door"
in case something corrupts your regular account(s).

As you've learned, once any additional user accounts have been
created, the Administrator account will no longer be displayed on the
Welcome Screen. This is a default security feature. By design, the
only way to log into the Administrator account of WinXP Home is to
reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at
the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.
