WinXP admin rights

I have a workstation for which the user has been granted local admin rights
via the administrators group. The account added to the group is a Domain
User account. The rights seem to be messed up. Some apps that require local
admin to install, or some of the XP Pro configs that require admin rights
work fine. Others will not work. Same user has been setup on a second
workstation, same OS, service pack, and patch level. All the same apps and
in the same domain. The second workstation works just fine.
OS : XP Pro sp2.

Any ideas on how I can correct this issue without blasting the profile and
recreating it?

A lot depends whether these machines are members of a domain, or not. If
it's a domain account then the problem is likely in the profile, as a domain
logon will be the same for both computers. If not then it might be the
account itself that's faulty on one computer.

You could try transferring the profile from the working computer; as long as
the other settings are identical, and the profiles are in the same-named
folder on both computers, this should be OK. Take a copy of the existing
profile first.

If that doesn't cure the troubles, then it must be in the account itself, in
which case removing and re-creating the account is probably best. Once
you've re-created the account, log on to it once*, log off and back on as
Administrator, and copy the original profile back in.

*This creates the profile folder, which doesn't exist until first log-on.
