I've just set up a new system. WinXP Pro on a P4. Neither the wallpaper
selection, nor the theme (Windows Classic) seems to stick for any length
of time, reverting back to "no wallpaper" and "Windows XP Theme",
respectively. Anybody have any thoughs as to a solution? It's really
a pain in the neck!

Thanks. I appreciate any and all help.

Are you on a domain that uses group policy?
If not, check your event logs.

Are you on SP2? You ought to be - and all critical patches... not likely to
be related, but worth mentioning.

Great John, glad it worked for you and thanks for posting back.
I lied! What I meant by the comment was that I needed to find that
patch. In retrospect, after installing it, the selections continue to
revert back to WinXP Theme. Any other thoughts? I KNOW it's kind of a
'nit' in the grand scheme of things, but it REALLY bugs me!!

Thanks.

John,

I suffer this as well. I would really like t know a fix for it. Seems not
a lot of people get this problem though so support is rare. I too have tried
the fixes and patches to make it work with no luck. My problems started
within 10 minutes of booting up my new computer. I called Dell with no luck.
Went to restore the OS and the same thing happened. Did it again and again
until finally one of the restores seemed to have worked. Now I have
reformated again and guess what? Its happened again! So I restored my
computer about 5 times to get the classic theme to stick. I just hopw it
continues that way. I cant stand the aweful look of Luna. Do you get the
strange Luna theme with the smaller min/max/close buttons as well? In the
properties does state windows classic theme, but look like Luna? Just want
to make sure our issue is one and the same.

Check your setting for the screensavers path.

Here are some examples:

Marine Aquarium 2.scr > rename it to > MarineAquarium2.scr

In the registry, screensaver will work correctly if it is listed as so:
c:\windows\system32\marine~1.scr

Screen Savers do not work correctly if listed as so:
""c:\windows\system32\marine aquarium 2.scr""

Kelly,

Those didnt work either. I did update the sonic software and updated
everything I could find. Seems to have worked. Next time I format I'll try
that first. I also used Regclean and it found a lot left over from the
factory installed AOL software that wasnt removed.

Thanks for your help. Can someone else with this issue try and update sonic
if you have it and see if it helped out.
