Winmail transfer of info

Marshall Oseas

Just purchased new laptop, and am getting frustrated attempting to find my
old emails. I keep them for about a year, so I can reference something in
the future.

I have backed up my old computer, as well as copying all the files (easier
to find) onto an external HDD using Acronis. I can re-install everything I
had wanted, including all my programs, data, etc.

However; with Winmail I am only getting the "new" emails. I can go to my
"G" drive and log in from there, and my mail from yesterday . . . back to
forever are there. How can I get them transferred over to the new
computer? My Older folders are still there, but when I bring them over to the
new "WinMail" they are not there when I log on.

Older laptop was Vista Home Premium 32 bit . . newer one is a blazer, with
Vista Home Premium 64bit, 6GB RAM, etc. This has been my only problem so
far . . .

Thanks for the input.

Try to be a little sympathetic to your audience when posting in a forum such
as this. No one here has the foggiest what or where your "G" drive might
possibly be, or how you log in to it.

I suggest logging in to the old computer, then do File, Export, Messages,
Windows Mail. Copy the output to a CD or a USB drive. Then log in to the
new computer and do File, Import, Messages, Windows Mail.

Hi Once more . . . I did have everything backed up and copied to my external
HDD. My problem was that a years worth of emails were given numbers, rather
than the names of the person sending them. I was able to find a
"workaround" by merely utilizing the view and or organize tool.

You can drag the eml files back into WinMail folders and then they will show
the authors and other header details. You can also customize the Windows
Explorer columns to show the authors and subjects by right clicking on the
column header (where it shows name and date, etc.) in the Explorer View
Window and then selecting "More" and then checking the columns you wish to
view. That works very well.
