winlogon.exe

After start up and runnning computer for several minutes,
all activity stops and a check of prcesses shows that
the "winlogon.exe" is consuming 99% of cpu time. This is
something new, I have no idea what initiated it. There
doesn't seem to be anyway to interupt it except to turn
off teh computer.

Any ideas?
