My computer downloaded an auto update. When the system rebooted I got an
error "winlogon.exe encountered a problem and needs to close". The computer
will then reboot in about 2 minutes. Even if I'm at the account screen and
not logged on, the computer will reboot in 10-15 minutes. When I am in my
account the computer will not stay on long enough to run virus scan (CA
Associates) or Microsoft's AntiSpyware. CA Associates said it is a software
or hardware problem and not a virus. Reviewing my event log, it seems the
problem is coming from msbn32.dll. I checked to make sure that
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon is
set to "userinit.exe,"

Any thoughts on how to fix it.

What update was applied? Try uninstalling the update or running a
system restore to a date right before the problems started.

KB 908250 was installed last night before I logged off. I had the problem
when I logged on today. I also uninstalled KB908250 and rebooted and still
get the same proble. I wennt back and uninstalled KB 900325 which was
installed on October 16. This didn't fix the problem. I tried setting a
restore point to various prior dates but the computer shuts down before the
restiore is completed.

:

Try a repair install. You will need to reapply any updates that apply
after the SP2 level of the XP CD used for the repair install.
