When I get to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT everything is coded like this: .ppt and so
forth. Clicking on those reveals multiple variations of Powerpoint 11 & 12
then I can't get anything that says Show in order to rename it Open. I have
vista 32 bit, MS Ofiice 2003 & Powerpoint viewer 2007. HELP PLEASE!

I have just realize that you won't be able to see my screenshot. But the
instruction is still good. t-4-2

You are almost there. Scroll down till you see PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.
11, look to the immediate
left. There is an arrow at the front, click that and it will open up. Now do
your rename etc.
Repeat same steps for 12.
PS. NOT powerpoint 11 or 12, it has to be ** PowerpointViewer.SlideShow.11
**

Thanks t-4-2. I tried that but it won't let me rename. When I right click
..pps it IS PPV Slideshow.11 but I get these options: expand, new, find,
delete, rename, export, permissions, copy key name. I clicked on rename &
nothing happens. Tried l. click, r. click, dbl. r. click--nothing. Tried the
option- New & it gives me options: key, string value, binary value, D word
(32 bit) Value, Q word (64 bit) value, Multistring value, expandable string
value. Any suggestions?

In case my reply WITH screenshot somehow will not appear.......
OK. If you insist on right click on PowerPoinbtViewer.SlideShow.11.......
Click Expand > click Shell > right click on Show > click Rename > enter Open
Repeat same procedures on PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.12

Understood t-4-2. BTW- I do get your screenshot. Thanks! Didn't know you
could do that. Will try to learn how to do that myself! Sorry, didn't make
myself clear... I clicked on the arrow in front of it, i expand it and it
only gives me: persistant handler---no shell. ?????

I'm stumped.

Thanks very much for trying to help t-4-2. I really appreciate your efforts.
I'll keep stabbing away at it.

Sorry, you did not follow the recipe exactly. You looked at the wrong
place.
Nobody told you to go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \.pps

The recipe clearly says:
* HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.11 *
