Winfax Pro and Windows XP Problem

J

Jordan Kovats

I have just purchased Winfax Pro 10 after using it for years. I have
formatted my machine twice in the last 24 hours. Every other 'core'
program I have installed works fine. The last installation of winfax
went not responding. It seems to hang, often. I am running a 3.0 P4
512 ram, XP home, new in the last month. When doing an end program, I
sometimes see svchost running at 50% during the non responsive times of
Winfax. I have a US robotics modem, 2 months old. Funny that windows
did not recognize the PCI modem during both formats, I had to manually
install it. Diagnostics say the device is working properly. Anyone
have any thoughts, ideas as to why Winfax runs like a pig? Everything
was working fine when I first got the machine, however I had a few other
software issues that caused me to format, i.e winfax no longer saw
scanner, email settings disappeared on reboot etc. Those have been
resolved. I just cannot use a system with winfax not working properly.

Thanks,

Jordan

ver 10 wont work on xp , you need at least ver 10.2 , check their website
for and upgrade .

It's not unusual for a modem to not be recognized and require manual
installation.

As to WinFax, you should start with Symantec tech support. Check their
website for issues and updates and check with their tech support.

The latest is ver 10.03 for WinXP.

Make sure you use a controller based modem with Winfax. No soft or win
modems.

USR5686E works great. There is also an internal version. See Modems 101 at
www.usr.com for more info.

I am using Winfax Pro 10.0 on Windows XP Home with SP2. It is on a
dedicated phone line with a 56k modem. Otherwise I have a broadband on a
separate phone line for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express and this
also acts as my home phone line. I can use both at the same time.

I have another programme, which needs to connect using a 56k modem.
Normally Winfax Pro is set to auto-receive. I have to disable
auto-receive to use the other programme.

I had a dedicated fax telephone line because the fax service made
receiving telephone calls difficult. Incoming calls was the problem.

Hope this helps.
