I put some files on floppy disks using Win98se (my old
computer) and have recently purchased a Dell computer with
WinXP home edition. The floppy files with: WKS, WDB and
WPS designations will not open properly on the new
computer. What can I do to make my old floppy data
compatible with the new WinXP?

Have you installed MS Works on the new machine?

Hi Frank,

All the file extensions you mention are use with Ms Works (which is not
installed by default on XP). Can you confirm that you have works installed
on your new PC?

These files were not created by Windows 98SE, but by Microsoft
Works, which you appently had installed on your old computer.

Neither Windows XP, Windows 98SE, nor any other version of
Windows has ever come with Microsoft Works. If your previous
computer, running an older version of Windows, came with Works,
it was because the vendor who sold it bundled Works as part of
the package he sold you, not because that version of Windows came
with Works.

If you want to read these files on your new computer, you need to
buy and install a copy of Microsoft Works.
