I recently purchased new pc with XP operating system. My
computer will not open data contained in floppy I
generated before shutting down my previous pc that had
Windows ME operating system. After inserting the floppy
and clicking to open data, I receive message asking for
file name or program name required to open data contained
on floppy. The floppy "opened" without any problem on my
old pc (with ME), but will not open on new pc (with XP).
What is required to open and retrieve the data on this
floppy using my new pc?

You need to install in your new pc whatever application program you used
in your old pc to create the data. Word processors (like WordPerfect or
MS Word), spreadsheet programs (like Excel or Quatro Pro), presentation
applications (like Powerpoint or Presentations), database applications
(like Access or Paradox) and the like are NOT part of operating systems
(like Windows ME or Windows XP).
