Sounds like the Blaster Virus... check the many posts on
this board how to remove...AND next time, run a firewall
(preferably something other than the Windows version),
buy virus protection (And update it regularly), and
update your Windows thru the Windows update site.

The default setting for XP is to restart when there's a serious error. If
you want to turn this off, you can. System properties> Advanced>
Startup and Recovery. When an error happens now, you will get a blue
screen instead of a restart. The error message may be the same or
different than any that recorded in Event Viewer.

Also, check Event Viewer for details about any errors recorded at the same
time the restarts occurred.

NOTE:
If blaster was present, you would be receiving on screen messages about an
impending shutdown and NT Authority. You didn't mention any on screen
messages but it never hurts to scan the system for viruses (especially when
you encounter behavior that is entirely not normal for your system).

Poor ventilation, excessive dust buildup in case or failing fans can all
contribute to overheating problems. This is another situation where a
PC would repeatedly restart for no apparent reason. These restarts
would tend to appear on a timed basis "always after x amount of
minutes of use" or whenever extreme demands are placed on the CPU
(video processing, for example).

Bad RAM can also cause repeated restarts. Unlike heat related problems,
these occur more randomly.
