Hi!

I would like to ask you guys who are experienced gamers. I have been playing
for quite some time myself, using a Geforce 2MX 400 (64MB) and a few months
back, I upgraded to Geforce 4MX 440 (64MB). I have been thinking of
upgrading my graphic card soon, since Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 will most
probably crash my current card. Which is the better alternative for a gamer
with limited money: ATI, or nVIDIA?

For instance, which card is better between a Radeon 9200/9600 and Geforce FX
5200/5600 for these games?

I don't require the absolute latest and best graphics card out there, but a
more midrange version. I'm from Sweden, so any reply in swedish is welcome.

I think most would say the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro is a good card
performance/budget wise.

Hi,

Since you're on a budget right now, the nVidia Ti4200 64 MB will
drive any game out there on the market and probably last you well
until the next generation of video cards become the norm. AGP is
being replaced in the coming years, so there's no need to invest now.

I personally prefer nVidia. Technically, they'll keep leapfrogging each
other. Service-wise, though, ATI was a royal pain to deal with - my
experience with their tech support is what convinced me to buy an nVidia
GeForce FX for the new system I was building.

I've never needed to be in contact with any tech support. I manage for the
most part to solve my problems by myself, and if not I go to the dealer I
bought the stuff from and get something else. If it still doesnt work right,
I eventually get something that does work right.

I think I might go with ATI as my next purchase. Seams to be that it will be
ATI who comes out on top eventually. Nvidia has been cheating (3dmark 2003)
so who knows how long that has been going on...

I think that ATI is a good choice, by the price and the
performace, is better that nvidia.

I was running some time whit a Radeon 9000 Pro, and it run
very well whit any game in the present market.

Now, i have a 9800 256m, is a dream, the best of the
beast..

The kind of games I play (Raven Shield, Battlefield 1942, Star Trek: Bridge
Commander) for the most part, is the games I want to improve performance in,
and be able to up the quality of the graphics at the same time, without
paying a fortune to do so...
