We have a Workgroup set up on WindowsXP at my office, and
we have been experiencing problems with slow response in
applications (specifically AutoCAD 2002) when a computer
is disconnected from the LAN. This isn't a recent
problem; it has been a problem since the network was set
up. We think this occurs because certain applications
continuously scan the network, and when a connection to a
computer is unavailable, either WindowsXP or that
specific application will wait for a response from a
computer or a device that is no longer available. We do
NOT have a problem with lag while accessing files across
the LAN; the slowness occurs in our applications even if
we are working with local files and devices. Has anyone
else had this problem? If so, have you been able to
solve it? Our Workgroup configuration is as follows: we
have 4 computers, each on the same Workgroup. 3 of the
computers have a shared printer, and the other computer
has a shared printer as well as a shared plotter.
