WindowsXP message regarding my USB hub

Dig

I have WinXP Pro installed. Because I have several usb products I purchased
a USB 2.0 hub and attached it to the usb port that is on the motherboard
next to my keyboard and mouse connectors.

All the devices work fine the only problem is that every now and then I get
a message that pops up in windows that says the following:

HI-SPEED USB Device Attached to non-HI-SPEED Hub.
The generic USB hub is a HI-SPEED USN device that will function at reduced
speed when plugged into a non-HI-SPEED port.

The hubs shown in bold type have free ports that can support the HI-SPPED
USB device.

- Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
- USB Root Hub (6ports) (bold)
- Unused Port
- Unused Port
- Unused Port
- Unused Port
- Unused Port
- Unused Port

Recommendation
Discconect the Generic USB Hub from its current port and then connect it to
one of the ports on a hub shown in bold type

What in the world does this mean? Everything seems to work fine and it only
pops up every once in a while.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Plugging a USB 2.0 device into a USB 1.1 hub will net you this message. The
message is just asking you to plug the USB 2.0 device into a USB 2.0 hub.
Might want to verify that your motherboard supports 2.0 devices and/or see
if there is an option in the BIOS that lets you configure it for 1.1 or 2.0.

It means that you have a hi speed hub connected to a USB 1.x port.
Everything attached here is working at lower speeds. Not a problem if the
devices attached are capable of running at high or low speeds.

Install a USB 2.0 PCI card. Attach the hub to that.
