WindowsXp installation conunrum

Hi,

My laptop had windowsXP pre-installed. I have the product key sticker on the
bottom of the laptop. A vendor had to reinstall WindowsXP to enable my
laptop connect to our network. They could not find my original disk so they
used their own windowsxp as a temporary solution. What do I do now? Can I
avoid buying a new windowsxp? I suspect someone may have used my original
disk and registered it with my key.

Thanks in advance...Tony

So you suspect it is somebody you know that stole your CD and copied
your Key off of your computer?

What you need to do is contact the OEM for your laptop and explain you
lost your CD. Or you could just borrow and burn a copy of a CD from a
friend that has a computer made by the same OEM.

Also, what kind of copy of XP did this "vendor" install on your laptop?
Retail, VL, or OEM?

It is a little tricky to get back to your "licensed" install. If the
latter, then it would be much easier.

Let us know all this, and I'm sure we'll get you on your way.
