Hello.

I've been getting this message lately " Windows File Protection
Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by an
unrecognized version. To maintain system stability, windows must restore the
original version of these files."

After following the link in the message I have found that there is a
Microsoft supported hotfix for this. The machine getting the messaage has
just been reformatted and has a fresh install of XP with all the critical
updates, plus SP2.

Is there anyone that knows of this hotfix, and where I can get it? I'd like
to go that route, as opposed to installing SP2 again.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,

* insert WinXP-SP2 CD

* Start > Run > type sfc /scannow (note space bewteen sfc /), click OK

* Scan should begin verifying files are in place & not corrupted

Follow the instructions on the screen that informed you of the hotfix to get
the fix.

Hotfixes are not available without contacting MS directly. There are several
reasons for this, but a primary reason is that the hotfixes are not widely
tested and may cause other problems. MS needs to know who is running the
fixes and of any issues involved.

I do not have the SP2 CD, I downloaded it though Windows update. It no longer
shows up as a needed update.

Thanks,

Scott

I'll give it a try, thank you.
