Since Windows Mail is part of Vista, when I do a Windows 7 Upgrade, and since
Vista will be replaced by Windows 7, what will happen with Windows Mail?
Will it be deleted as Vista is removed? Should I update to to Windows LIVE
Mail...and why?

1.) Windows Mail ( WM ) replaced Outlook Express ( OE ). Windows Live Mail
( WLM ) replaces Windows Mail.
As far as Microsoft is concerned, WM and OE are things of the past.
2.) Window 7 ( WIN 7 ) will not have any e-mail client included in the
operating system, unlike WM came with Vista.
You are free to use any e-mail client you want, except of course WM and OE.
For " general " users, Win 7 does not support WM.
Win 7 supports WLM which is a free program, which is the reason why you
would want to upgrade to WLM.

Win7 doesn't include a default Mail Client.

Your Windows Mail/Vista data should be backed-up during the upgrade but...

Me, I tried Windows Live and after just an hour I unloaded it. Too many
errors when using IMAP. Didn't even configure in POP3. And news
groups, what a PITA.

So I loaded Thunderbird and haven't looked back. Works with all my
accounts and I am not getting silly IMAP and newgroup errors.

Excerpt from WLM website :
•Windows Live Mail lets you manage POP, IMAP and Windows Live Hotmail
accounts as well as .

Don't blame others because you don't know how to.

Oh, I knew how too Just that with IMAP the freaking thing didn't work
so why waste my time on the turkey?

I was talking about configuring POP3.
WLM admits things can be a little slow running IMAP.
Excerpt from WLM website :
Pros
•Windows Live Mail comes with reasonably effective spam filtering and fast
message search
•You can access MSN Hotmail and Windows Live Hotmail accounts
•Windows Live Mail integrates a calendar, instant messaging and RSS feeds
Cons
•Windows Live Mail does not offer custom smart folders
•You cannot organize your mail using labels or reply with templates
•Windows Live Mail can be a bit slow in parts, especially with IMAP accounts

•You cannot organize your mail using labels ...

Does that mean I cannot establish new folders, and
sub-folders, having any names I want, for email that I
receive? I don't think I understand what organizing mail
using labels means.

Clarification appreciated.

Forget that " labels " stuff.
Yes, you can do as you said, just like in Windows Mail. No difference.

Why don't you install WLM and see for yourself ? You have been asking about
WLM for a while now.
Worse come to worst, you can un-install it. It won't bite you !
Note :
If you do summon up enough courage, while in the process of installing, you
will be offered several programs to be installed as well.
I would decline them for now, and just choose the Mail option. If you do
like it after all, you can then go back and install anyone of those at a
later date.
After successful installation, you have the option of choosing which will be
your default mail program, WM or WLM. Your choice. And you can switch
default back and forth too.

I'll probably do that in the next week or two. My
experience with downloading new programs is that there are
usually some unexpected aspects which take much longer than
anticipated. Until I can find several uncommitted hours to
do the download, I'm spending a few minutes each day reading
newsgroups and asking questions so that I'm better prepared.
I'm sorry I my questions seem inappropriate.
It won't bite you!

That's what the owner of the last dog I reached down to pet
with my right hand told me - I now go by the nickname
"lefty". :-)

Good advice - which I had already decided upon. Thanks for
confirming it.

Thanks again - and again I'm sorry if my caution troubles
you.

Best regards.

Your questions are NOT inappropriate.
Brink, aka Shawn, moderator of another forum, has a motto :
No question is stupid, only people who don't ask. ( I am paraphrasing ).

I am ready to answer your questions whenever, as long as I know the answer.
I was just trying to give you an extra " nudge " to install WLM.

I don't know if you are familiar with Gmail, but Gmail uses labels. I never
could figure out how to use their labels. Gmail claims that labels are
better than folders, but labels are useless for me.

So I don't know if either of you are interpreting labels as Gmail labels,
but if so, then that explains the misunderstanding.

Well, you should have asked for help in the WLM newsgroup with your IMAP
and newsgroups problems. There may have been some easy solutions.

Well, Lefty (<G>), I'd recommend you backup everything prior to doing any
changes.
