Does anyone know when an English version group for Windows will be up? There
is already an Italian version, why not an English version?

It's possible the boys in Redmond have not yet created one. Hello
MSFT, get you Windows 7 newgroup on.

The Italian group is invalid. I can't connect to it thru news reader

The Italian Windows 7 group is not invalid, it's alive an well. The fact
that your newserver can't connect to it doesn't mean it's invalid. In fact
there are 2 Italian groups for Windows 7, great if you can read Italian.

I don't believe Windows 7 groups will be available here, I think we need to
go take over the Italian group :)

That could be correct. A couple of indicators are that
Windows 7 does not have a built in NNTP newsreader,
and Microsoft seems to be promoting web based discussion
groups for its products.

I second that, I prefer NNTP newsgroups over clunky forums. I think
that "web forums" stink to high hell!

I agree with of you. But, everything is catering to the
technically challenged who couldn't configure a newsreader
for NNTP if their life depended on it. Of course, they could
ask how to do it on a web forum, and still not get it right.

I believe that the reason for the move to web forums is so that things
can be moderated.

Microsoft could moderate *their* nntp servers if they wanted to. The
point with web forums (IMHO) is that compared to NNTP newsgroups they
are an absolute abomination! It seems that nowadays the philosophy is
that you should make everything as dumb as you can and even if it is
absolute crap that is OK because as long as it is easy and dumb the
objective has been met.

NNTP is pure content. Web forums are _% content and additional
metadata and statistics, tracking, ( moderation ). NNTP is a simple
concise text "Research Paper" while web forums are more of Excel
spread sheet with a bit of PowerPoint charting added in. Way too
slow and unresponsive compared to what NNTP offers. Forums on
the web are more geared to quantifying answers & posters instead
of "JUST" answering the questions. Personally, I'd rather try to write
10 responses here than just ONE on a forum.

The one advantage web forums is stickies to to contain the
rules of the group, and FAQs. It reduces the need to answer
the same basic questions over and over.

And the disadvantage is people rarely read the stickies.

Then you respond with, "Read the FAQ, idiot!"
