I tried to load windows2000 professional on a desk top
that already windows 95. The installation went ok,
however, it failed to recoginize windows 2000, it would
only recoginize windows 95. I indavertantly deleted most
of windows 95 and now nothing will boot up. I was advised
to create a start-up disk as 2000 is loaded. I was could
not figure out how to create a start-up disk from another
windows 2000 machine - however I did create a windows 98
start-up disk. Will this work? Help!

Not knowing how exactly you tried to install the W2K, it is difficult to
give you the steps to recover the Windows 2000 Install you have already made
but not working. However, you can start the installation all over again by
inserting your legitimate copy of Win2000 Pro with the Product Key in the
CD-ROM drive in the PC with the selected CD-Drive being the FIRST Boot
Device in the BIOS [ If neccessary after reboot press the appropriate BIOS
key(s) and in the BIOS setup screen enter the menu containing Boot Order and
then Change , Save the Changes and Reboot] In the Blue Windows 2000 setup
screen opt to install New Copy, Not Upgrade of OS or Repair damaged OS,this
time by pressing ESC key if prompted to do so.
You will then be presented with a list of all the current partitions of your
hard disk drive (s) to choose from.
You should opt to Delete [Pressing the key "D" after selecting the target
partition with the cursor and "L" in the next window to affirm] the
partition that had the Win95 and the one you previously tried to install
Win2000 ( I guess you have used the same partition for both) and then
Create new partition by Pressing the key "C" and then if you want to RESIZE
the partition press Backspace key and then typing the numbered keys for the
required size [ Obviously, you can only make the size smaller:)]
Once that is finished you get the unformatted partition of the size you have
chosen.
In that screen , you select this new or "damaged" partition to Install your
Windows 2000 and Press ENTER.

You will then see the Windows Setup examining all the disks and then
Formatting the partition you have chosen, copying files etc.
From then on ,you know the rest is the same as you had done before.
Good luck
