I have WIndows XP installed on my laptop, i jsut noticed that anytime i try
to change something in the msconfig, it tells me that i have to logoff and
logon as admin, to change this.. i am the only one that uses this laptop,
how can i go about fixing this? im told this only afte ri try to apply any
changes.

With the windows operating system thier are user accounts with administrative
privleges, & then thiers the "administrator".The account(s) are
diffrent.For youre
problem(s),tap the F8 key on start up,select safe mode, enter xp in
administrator
account...Or,if you want to edit services,go to run, type:services.msc Double
click on one,select the properties

lol, just a bit premature on my last post on this topic.. click on what??
change properties for what?
what service woudl control that part of this?
i understand what you mean now.

Go to control panel...user accounts....make a *new* account, and this time
give it administrator privileges. Then log onto to that account, and if you
want to, delete your present account so the new one is the only account on
the PC.

tried that.. that was someone of a headache..
and it did NOT fix the problem.

What are you trying to change in MSCONFIG?

Alias...why wouldn't what I suggested work? When *I* had a problem with
administrator privileges, that's what worked for me.

dont know, but when i did just that, it was the same thing. so, it must have
been just a bit different in your case.

I asked because I thought maybe there might be a virus or malware that
is preventing him from using MSCONFIG.

Ignore the warning. It is caused by other security software installed
on your system. It makes you think that your changes will not be
effected when you restart Windows - but they will. So make your
changes, ignore/close the message, exit msconfig, and reboot (and
after you login then select the checkbox to not show msconfig alert
dialog again). The changes will be effected despite the misleading
message.
