buddy of mine jsut bought used laptop from some dude. I checked it out
and it was a normal windows logon screen with name and unknown
password. Long story short i got it home, booted it up and the Power-On
password screen came up (which i dont know) and it seem i cant do
anything. I cant install windows, it wont boot to really anything. THis
seems jsut a crazy odd problem that this could happen. any easy fixes?

By power on password are you referring to a BIOS set password? If so,
you're going to have one heck of a time getting rid of the password.
The laptop manufacturer will not tell you the master password to allow
the machine to boot since laptops are frequently stolen.

About the only way you can remove the password is to open the laptop
up and remove or discharge the CMOS battery. Sometimes this can be
very difficult without damaging the motherboard.

Google for bypass BIOS password or have your friend contact the "dude" and
get it from him.
