Windows XP x64 Pro problems since SP2?

I mostly use the machine for gaming. Ever since the automatic installation of
SP2 and reboot, half of the games that I play won't load. It seems that they
all crash at the logo screen. Different game manufacturers, different games
entirely. It seems that only the ones that do not have a 'trailer' or intro
movie are able to load. All others crash. The screen flickers and flashes as
it goes in and out of resolution for the game, and then just shoots out to
desktop. No error messages, no event log/application error, nothing.

I have nothing running in the background, and that includes anti-virus or
anything of the sort. I've reinstalled all games and XP with SP2, same issue.

Any thoughts?

Hello Service Pack 2 is still in beta for Windows XP x64.

I've got a hunch that if you start them up in a window rather than full
screen you'll have more luck at this point. At least that is the case with
Windows Vista at the moment. Best place to ask for more information is
microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general they'll hopefully know if this is a
known issue with the current builds and any work-arounds.
