Windows XP won't re-install

I installed XP Home on my daughter's computer a couple of years ago and all
was well (all latest upgrades) until I attempted to install a Microsoft
Wireless PCI Adapter MN-730. This crashed the computer and corrupted the
system such that the C drive had to be re-formatted. In attempting to then
reinstall XP, it simply would not work. I reinstalled Windows 98 and
attempted to upgrade to XP. It won't complete the upgrade and reboots the
computer while copying installation files. Attempting to reboot from the CD
and continue the installation gives the error message "INF file txtsetup.sif
is corrupt or missing. Status 14."

Since installing XP originally I upgraded the CPU. Is this the problem? If
it is, what solution? If not the problem, does anyone have any ideas as to
what the problem might be? How about a solution?

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks!
