Windows XP Won't Boot Up Anymore

I was using Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 to partition my hard drive
and upon the necessary reboot after the start up screen nothing
happened. I waited for a while to no avail. So I manually restarted
my laptop and the same thing continued to happen. I tried starting
up
in safe mode and was able to get in the first time I tried but while
trying to do a system restore i received an error that told me that
SecEvent.evt was corrupt and I need to run chkdsk (I don't know how
to
do this). It restarted again and didn't go anywhere beyond the start
up screen. I tried using an XP boot disk I made (which I have used
successfully in the past) and the same thing happened again. I even
tried booting off of my XP disk but it would just try to
automatically
load Windows and would hang at that point. I am using a Toshiba
Satellite laptop that has 528 MB of RAM and Windows XP SP2 installed.
When I tried to repair the installation via XP CD the option never
showed up...what do I do?

What exactly were you doing with Acronis Disk Director10 ? Were you
modifying an existing partitions size?

Sorry to tell you, but XP doesn't like it's partition to change size, it will
refuse to boot, when using ACronis you need to choose a different disc then
what XP resides on.
You may have to re-install XP via a reformat of the HD

I did change the size of the partition that XP was on, is there any
way to undo this problem rather than completely formatting the HD?

This is incorrect. Acronis Disk Director is specifically
engineered to change partition sizes, both system and
data partitions. I have done lots of these, the most
recent one only two days ago.

Partition manipulation is usually safe but it can fail. Yours looks
like it has gone haywire. This is why it is a good idea to create
an image of a partition before resizing it, storing it on a different
disk.

You probably have to reinstall Windows. Is your data backed
up?

Not true. I do it quite frequently, and not just with Acronis. I
have also done it with Partition Magic and with BootItNG.

I repeat what I said before: I have resized many system
partitions and I was successful with almost all of them.

I suggest you supply some evidence to support your claim.
