Windows XP will not startup

System would not boot. I ran the the repair utility and
for some reasons was able to get through to the repair
console without an administrators password. So I ran
chkdisk and several other commands and at least all of my
directories and files came back. I then copied the system
file from the repair directory to the config directory.
Later I ran the XP setup and asked me if I wanted to
repair. So I did. Looked like alot of file actvity but
gave me some confidence. When the computer restarted it
took some time to get to the XP logo. More confidence
building. Then the error message from lsass.exe -
password problem. No matter what mode I try to startup in
it takes a long time and then near the very end the
computer restarts. Any ideas without having to reinstall
XP and lose all of my information? No when I try to go to
the repair console it prompts me for an adminstrator
password but I am not sure what that is because the OEM
installed XP.
