windows xp upgrade problem!!!

I downloaded the last windows xp upgrades and after that,
I can't run cd-r's nor cd-wr's. I have a Toshiba
satellite notebook. My brother also has a toshiba
satellite notebook and it happens the same to him. Is
there a solution? Do we have to reset our notebooks?
Please, let me know if there is something we can do to
fix this

You should be able to uninstall the update via the Control Panel > Add
and remove Programs.
