I have been faithfully applying the monthly updates to Windows XP. My system
has gone from stable to unstable. The more updates I apply the worst my
system get. Applied the October 2005 updates and now I can't use my Office
2003 system. More updates and I can't bring up the Help screen. Microsoft
wants you to apply these updates but they don't care if they wreak your
system.

I feel your pain, A repair install last night was the cure for me.
But then you get into the trap of reinstalling the updates.

It might help by not installing all of the updates, it takes more time but
if this is your home computer read the details of the update anything that
says (an attacker needs a valid logon password.....or this exploit cannot be
exploited remotely) well they do not get installed since they need access to
my keyboard for the exploit.
Too bad this doesn't always cure it, an "Office" security update last week
really screwed my system up. But then again it's been 21 months with this
computer I geuss a repair install every 21 months isn't all that bad.
