Windows XP Taskbar - Pop Ups

You know how when someone messages you on MSN messenger, their conversation
pops up in the taskbar and alerts you to their presence?

Something (I'm not sure if it's something I'm running or whatnot) keeps
popping up, about ever 15-20 minutes in my taskbar. It stays there for about
3 seconds (usually not long enough for me to catch it) and disappears. It
doesn't say anything, it just has a picture of a little white box with a blue
border in the left hand side of it.

Can someone tell me what I may be running that is causing this? I've tried
shutting down all possible programs, running virus scans and everything but
nothing works. It's driving me crazy because it interupts whenever I am
doing something in fullscreen (a movie/game.)

i'm not sure how to get rid of whatever it is. But I get a similar message
telling me my computer has a virus. It's called "Virus Alert!" and I have
done the samething you have. Hopefully someone can help us!!!
