Windows XP System

Dell PC 6 mos. old, suddenly for last 6 days shuts down by itself after being
on about 45 min. Start button flashes yellow, I hold it in till it goes off
and restart system. Then it stays on for the rest of the day and evening.
 
Maybe a Trojan/Virus ?
I can't really think of any other reasons right now.

Shut Down your PC, then turn it back on, while it's turning on keep hitting
F8 then choose Safe Mode from the menu.
Log into the Administrator account and run your Virus\Spyware\Trojan
Scanner(s).
