Windows XP System Event; Windows File Protection; ID: 64004

XP event viewer occasionally displays System Event,
Windows File Protection; Type: Info; ID: 64004.
Description: The protected system file mfc42.dll could not
be restored to its original, valid version. The file
version of the bad file is 6.0.8665.0 The specific error
code is 0x800b0100 [No signature was present in the
subject.

I show 6 of these library files in various paths with
various dates. All of them are have identical mfc42.dll
file properties and are exactly the same size. Three (3)
of these files are in UPPER CASE and three are not.

Interestingly my Mouseman Cordless Optical USB Mouse
not only uses this file, but it has the latest creation
date. I could run the System File Checker (SFC) to correct
this annoyance, or manually overwright all other files from
the last known good one. The following Microsoft Link
applies:

url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/proddocs/system_file_prot
ection.asp
<>
Does anyone have any recommendations about this annoyance?

Sincerely . . . Ken
