Windows XP Startup

Some recent update has "deactivated" my XP "Welcome" log on page and Fast
User switching. When I turn on my computer, I get a small Windows XP Home Ed.
Log in screen with two blanks, one pre-filled in with "Owner", the other
blank for a password. When I go to the Control panel to try and modify User
accounts, I get the following error message: "A recently installed program
has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User switching. To rstore these
features, you must uninstall the program. The following filename might help
you identify the program that made the change: msgina.dll." This file is a
read-only file in the Windows System32 program folder. Can anyone help me
restore things back to the way they were without destroying everything?

Careful.

(I could be wrong here...)

If the gina has been changed, there could be a trojan/keylogger of some
kind operating.

Have you tried safe mode? (although I don't think that will correct the
gina)

Hopefully someone else will pipe in on this.
