Windows XP startup delay

I have an intermitent problem when windows boots up. It
will boot without a problem until the "Start" tool bar
comes up. Sometimes the tool bar will populate it's
various icons with no delay. At other times there is a
long delay and the tool bar remains blank. When it
finally is finished populating, the computer does not
properly function and tends to hang up when I want to
open "programs" from the start menu. I have to keep
rebooting until I get a good quick boot and then all is
well. Does any one have any ideas about this?

You should take a look @ startup items in msconfig

Start > run > msconfig
Look on the startup tab
If you it disable all and restart your computer
This will disable all 3rd party software from starting up
at windows startup

I disabled two hp startup items and the results seem much
better. I still get varying delay, but subsequent
operation of the computer appears to be normal. More
experience with this will tell me with more certainty.
Thanks.
