windows XP start up

S

Scott

When I log onto windows XP it loads a lot of programs or
processes. I would like to take some of those programs
out of the startup and not have them loaded into the
computer and not have that process running. I have gone
to START "run" MSCONFIG and under the startup tab I can
uncheck a startup item, but when I do that I get an error
and I loose my keyboard. Is there another location to go
to delete these items from the startup? If it is in the
system registry, I would need to know the proceedure on
how to delete those items from that.
Thanks

Scott,

What entry, and error? The startup entry will be present in any of these locations in the registry:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Run

What is the error message, Scott?

In the meantime:

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.
