Windows XP Pro is shutting down after aprox 60 seconds after boot up. I can
not stop the OS from shutting down to determine what could be the cause.
Client was trying install APC UPS device. How can I stop OS from shutting
down?

Hi,

Is there any message?
Does it go through the shutdown sequence?
Does it just suddenly restart?
Does it happen if you disconnect the APC cable?
Does it happen in Safe mode?

Hi,

Is there any message? ONLY DIFFERENT DLL'S EACH TIME WERE NOT ABLE TO LOAD
DUE TO WINDOWS SHUT DOWN
Does it go through the shutdown sequence? YES
Does it just suddenly restart? NO RESTART, JUST A SHUT DOWN. IT IS NOT
SASSER!
Does it happen if you disconnect the APC cable? I AM CURRENTLY
DISCONNECTED FROM UPS AND YES IT HAPPENS CONNECTED OR DISCONNECTED.
Does it happen in Safe mode? CAN NOT GET IT BOOT INTO SAFE MODE. IT
RESTARTS IN NORMAL WINDOWS AFTER CHOOSING SAFE MODE. COULD BE THE WAY THE
PROMISE MIRROR ARRAY REACTS TO THE SELECTION.

Hi Duran,

Ok, sounds like you eliminated the possibility of a worm already - good. So
now we just need to figure out what *is* loading that is initiating the
sequence. When it boots, click start/run and type "shutdown -a" and click
ok. See if that delays the sequence at all, and use the time to run
msconfig. From there, put the system in diagnostic mode, then restart and
see if this keeps it from happening. If so, then it's a software problem
that we can diagnose by slowly reenabling programs. Otherwise, it may be a
hardware fault.

I have already tried "shutdown -a" with no results. It either responds with
"Unable to abort the shutdown because no shutdown was in progress" or the
shut down process is not effected by the command. Could be a timing issue.
Was able to get safe mode to attempt to boot with BSOD message of
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Search reveals this could a driver issue from
Logitech hardware. Recommendation is to uninstall the driver and reinstall
the lastest driver. Well needless to say the obvious in that solution.
Still trying options. Open to suggestions. HELP!
Desperation level.

Ok, I thought the original problem started with the installation of the APC
UPS service, not something Logitech related????

Anyhow, how about "safe mode with command prompt"? If you can get there, try
running rstrui.exe from the \windows\system32\restore folder.
