Hi everybody!!! I have tried finding a contact for microsoft but am unable to
do so. Anyway i have completely trusted microsoft and therefore i decided to
upgrade my computer system. I first had Windows XP but upgraded it to SP2
using microsofts downloading tools. For a while the system was working fine,
and when i did download it it did not say anything about it being valid or
not?? But all of sudden now i get a message saying that the system i have
currently got opperating is not genuine. If i knew that before i wouldnt have
downloaded it i had windows XP which was fine so if i knew i wouldnt have
upgraded it!!!!! I do not know what to do now??? Has anyone got any ideas
waht i can do??? Has anyone any contact details for microsoft?? Is there any
chance i could back to my old sysytem windows XP?? Any help would be
great!!!! Plz help!!!! Thank you!!!!

Your system is OK and probably is using geniuine code. It's just that
Microsoft spyware has detected that your product key os now black isted -
for some reason who knows .. perhaps the number was harvested by a pirate(s)
or who knows what .. and Microsoft trojanware has started nagging you about
it. You can turn off that notification and forget about it. See here:

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/wga.asp

If it really concerns you that the disc used to install your system was a
truly "pirate" copy, then you'd better have you operating system
re-installed as pirated copies can have backdoors etc. slipped into them.

1. Check with whom you got the coputer from - they may be able to resolve
the issue.

2. If #1 is not successful (she moved to France or something) then purchase
a retail copy of Windows and have someone do a real "clean" install of
Windows. Back up your data, files, music etc. before hand. Gather 3rd party
software, any necessary product keys etc. Consider the Files and Setting
Tranfer Wizard, but don't transfer anything that could contain malicious
code e.g. executables { .exe files etc. }.

Or it could be simply a validation problem; below from an earlier post

Go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and revalidate. Reboot your computer after
this is done.
Let us know us if this fixes the issue.
Sometimes revalidating and rebooting correctly syncs the Windows library
files.

If not, try this:

Please click start, then run, then type in "wgatray.exe /b" then press
enter.
After that, log off and log back on.

If still no resolution, then:

Please follow this simple troubleshooting procedure:

1. Download and install the MGA Diagnostic Tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56062

2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click
on the "Validation" tab and then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the
"WGA Validation Problems" forum and paste the
results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in a detailed post.
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and
recommend an appropriate solution.

Hi
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago after clean-reinstalling my OS
(OEM reinstall disk)..
The validation check failed repeatedly when I tried to add the updates
from update.microsoft,com.
The failure was ascribed to an "unknown error" which was less than
helpful. However after the tenth or eleventh failure, I just happened
to notice a very small link entitled Certificate of Authority on the
"failure" page.
Out of desperation I clicked this which led me to a page asking me to
describe various features of my Product Key tag which meant rummaging
around on the floor for a while trying to see to what color the tag
changed when the computer tower was tilted (among others).
Anyway, it was worth it as the validity of my OS was finally accepted
and the updates started to flood in.
Assuming your OS is genuine, you might want to check this possibility
out as it certainly saved me.

Good luck
Paul

Hi Rozie
I'm not sure I understand your question?
Are you asking where to get the updates for a freshly installed (and
slightly out-of-date) OS?
If this is your question, you go to the update.microsoft.com website
where your software will be examined and the appropriate software
updates suggested for installation.

If OTOH you were referring to something to do with your original WGA
problem, let me know if and where I can assist.
Paul
