Windows XP SP2 does not read Hosts file

Dear all,

I have a strange problem on my WinXP SP2 box. It does not seems to
read the updated Hosts file, even after I have shut down DNS Client
service. The strange thing is the old entries in the Hosts file still
take effect.

On my Win2K box, any update to the Hosts file seems to take effect
immediately. Any idea what may have caused the problem? Is is caused
by virus/spyware?

Thanks.

Try flushing the DNS Cache. Type in Command Prompt:

ipconfig /flushdns
