Windows XP SP2 and incompatible applications

Hello All,

A week or two ago I was reading the list of programs that
may experience loss of functionality when service pack 2
is applied (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
kbid=884130&product=windowsxpsp2). We are a software
development house and at the time, two of the products on
the list immediately caught my attention (Visual Basic 6.0
and Outlook 2003) since we are currently using these
extensively for development in existing and future
programs.

Revisiting the link, I have noticed that these two
programs have since been removed from the list with no
explanation as to why. I noticed that Symantec Anti-virus
Corporate Edition (which we also use) was also removed,
but I know this was due to a softare update provided by
the manufacturer that addresses the issue.

My questions are...

First, why were Visual Basic 6.0 and Outlook 2003 removed
from the list? Had further testing shown that they were
wrongfully put there?

Next, is there any additional software or patches that
would need to be downloaded to make these programs run
correctly in a Service Pack 2 environment?

Finally, could someone please direct me to any additional
information regarding the specific reasons why these and
other applications may or may not be incompatible with
Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Thank you in advance for any information provided.

After you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2),
some programs may seem not to work. By default, Windows Firewall
is enabled and blocks unsolicited connections to your computer.

This article discusses how to make an exception and enable a program
to run by adding it to the list of exceptions. This procedure permits the
program to work as it did before the service pack was installed.

Hi, Neil. Here's a link to information for developers:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/security/productinfo/xpsp2/default.aspx

I think your best approach is to look on MSDN or contact someone there.
Since I can barely write "hello world" in Perl, I'm afraid I don't have
any other suggestions for you but I'm sure the experts at MSDN can
help.
