boot up is slow and a dialogue box eventually appears headed - server busy -
the text then goes on to give me an option to "switch to" and when i click
this the "start" menu on the bottom left corner of the computer pops up - i
click out of this and the original dialogue box dissapears. However sometimes
the same thing repeats itself 3 or 4 times
also how do i get programmes out of the automatic start up at the bottome
right hand corner of the screen
thank you

Slow Computer;

First have you tried running Anti Spyware scanning software on this computer?

You may want to try running the SFC /SCANNOW command from a command window,
this will refresh your computers system files, which may help in the event
of slow performance. Here is an article that discusses this:

System File Checker (sfc)

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pr...elp/2a2ba2f1-11ab-46ba-bec3-945b0b4cbf5f.mspx

It will request your install CD.

Next you may want to try defragmenting your hard drive:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/defrag_defrag.mspx

If you go to Start -> All Programs -> Startup

Any programs listed under the Startup folder will load upon boot.

There are a few registry keys that load programs when you boot:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run
