Windows XP Shutdown Issues

Please help....Running XP Home. Since SP2 update am unable to shutdown
computer. Only interrupting the power works. Have tried shutdowns through:

Start Menu
Task Mgr
Tower Power Button
CMD Shutdown -s

The Shutdown -s started the countdown sequence but did nothing at zero.

Thought BIOS might be an issue so bought BIOS Award upgrade yesterday.
Loaded without any issues, but did not resolve the problem.

Have Googled looking for answers, checked power settings, tried everything I
could find without success.

Any Ideas?

Some shutdown issues were present prior to SP2. Start button and tsk mgr
would not work but a single press of the tower power button initiated a
normal shutdown.

Went into the BIOS Power Management Menu, here are the settings:

ACPI Function Enabled
ACPI Suspend Type S1(POS)
Power Management Option User Define
HDD Power Down Disable
Suspend Mode Disable
Video Off Option Suspend -> Off
Video Off Method Blank Screen
Modem Use IRQ 3
Soft Off by PWRBTN Instant-Off
AC Loss Auto Restart Off
IRQ/Event Activity Detect Press Enter

FYI...Other than this issue, computer seems normal. Running NAV and Spyware
stuff on a regular basis.

Any Ideas?

Thx
