I started to install the Windows Service Pack 2 for Windows XP but could not
finish the download , I shut off the computer, when I later tried to turn on
the computer it stated the Service Pack should be removed and that the
computer was in an "Unstable state", when I tried to remove it, it stated
that some of the programs could be affected it showed a list almost all of
the programs were iisted, I did not remove it as I was not sure. I turned it
off but now the computer starts to check the disk for errors, it does this
continuously, if you click before the time period is over it asks how to turn
it on Safe Mode, with promp, last good conif, or normal, etc. when you click
anything it just starts to check itself again. I can not get the computer to
go anywhere. I can not open any of the applications. I tried pressing R for
recovery but the program will not accept it. I need help.

Go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and get their hard drive
diagnostics.
If the hard drive is OK:

1. How to use the Automatic Recovery feature to recover your computer if
the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup program is not completed successfully:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=875355

2. Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select "Last known good configuration" at the menu.
If that fails, reboot tapping F8 again this time choosing Safe Mode.
Then System Restore to Date/Time before issue started:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore

3. Otherwise perform a Repair Installation:

4. When you are ready for SP-2, follow the Service Pack Installation
Checklist:
