Windows XP Service Pack 1 screwed up my computer!!!!

Hello,

I downloaded and installed the latest Windows XP service
pack SP1 on my computer, and now my computer runs
EXTREMELY slow. I think part of it may be due to the SP1
recommending me to make a copy and archive the original
Windows XP package, which it was to replace. Now my C:/
is nearly full (~14.5 gig/16 gig total). Are there any
fixes available for this?
I have recently installed McAFee antivirus software
before I downloaded the Service Pack, I'm not sure if
there may be a conlict with the Service Pack.

If you read the directions prior to installing SP1, it warns
you to disable any third-party antivirus program prior to
installing SP1. Perform the following:
