Hello! My name is Apoorva. I am using WinXP SP2.

Now, in the Search feature of Windows XP (Start - Search), I clicked on 'More
Advanced Options' and then under 'Type of file' drop down menu, I could not
find 'folder' option.
Where could it have disappeared and how I can restore it back?

Also, in another user account in XP, when I opened the Search function, the
entire options in it are missing except for the search companion which is
being displayed. How to restore all the options back?

Apoorva.

Open Explorer and go to the Windows\inf folder. Locate the srchasst.inf file. Right click it and
select Install. You'll need your XP CD or the files from the i386 folder. (This fix will require
you to have your Win XP CD).

The Windows\inf folder is a hidden folder. You can adjust your Explorer Folder Options (View
tab) to Show hidden files and folders. You can also click Start, Run and enter %SystemRoot%\inf
to open directly to the inf folder.

Thanks for your reply. I have already tried this step as mentioned on other
forums on the net as well.
But, seems like this is a major issue. I guess there is something wrong with
the registry entry and might be possible that a value key referring to Search
function is corrupted or missing because of which all the options have
disappeared from the search function in Windows XP SP2.

I really need an effective solution to this ' Search funtion ' problem as I
am facing this problem since past 2 -3 weeks and have not yet been able to
solve it.
