Windows XP Screen Saver Problem

R

I have just purchased a new computer with Windows XP and
when I copy an old screen saver I used on my old computer
(Windows 98), it doesn't even show up as an option when I
try to chan ge to that screen saver. I copied it to the
WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 AS WELL AS THE WINDOWS directories. I
have noticed that the screen saver filenames that come
with XP all start with "ss". I tried renaming my
screensaver (bmw.scr to ssbmw.scr) but this does not
help. Any input would be appreciated. Thx.

Unfortunately, many of the 9x themes and screen savers are not compatible
with XP. You usually find that out when copying them to the appropriate
directory as you have only to find they don't show up.

Here's something you can try if you have not already done so but no
guarantees, right click the scr file, if you see install in the context
menu, select it and see if that resolves the issue.

If not, you might try searching Google, www.google.com for some third party
software that might be able to make them compatible or be able to install
them. Note: sometimes these programs let you install the theme or screen
saver but your system becomes unstable or locks up.
