Windows XP Restore Points

Windows XP automatically creates restore points when new
software is installed. Is this restore point a picture of
the configuration settings before the installation or
after. In other words, if the installation has a negative
effect on the computer performance should I go back to
this restore point or something earlier.

The restore point is before the installation.

The reader should exercise normal caution and backup the Registry and
data files regularly, and especially before making any changes to their
PC, as well as performing regular virus and spyware scans. I am not
