windows xp registration problem

About a month ago I bought a windows xp operating system to replace an
earlier operating system, the computer worked well during the 30 day windows
xp registration period. Once the registration period expired the system has
failed to permit any access into the system. It turns on, but it opens the
login window and asks to register windows xp. I have tried calling the phone
number as indicated, but the voice recognition program fails to recognize the
registration code. What should I do?

I also have a registration problem: I can log in (I am still within the
30 day registration period), but I cannot register, I suppose because I
am using the same key as a previously registered installation which was
on a machine which had a hardware failure on 4/4. I have tried online:
("exceeded maximum number...") and by phone: ("failed to register"
followed by my call being transferred to a line with faint,
unintelligible conversation mixed with a few noises, then
disconnected).

Please help, my business accounting system (QuickBooks) was running on
the failed system. Probably I will need to do accounting longer than 30
more days.

Never mind, I got it, on the 2nd call (with the 2nd repetition of a
ridiculously long sequence of numbers to the same silly computer
program posing as a person) This time after I did my imitation of a
text to speech program, the computer transferred me to a real person
instead of a connection to nowhere and said person accepted my
explanation of the circumstances and gave me a new code. So, I am
OK, I hope. Now all I have to deal with is a couple of days work
reinstalling applications, recovering backups, and retuning the system.
